At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • gain an understanding of unions, the RMTU union and the role of a delegate or workplace representative within the organisation and the workplace
  • understand the importance of union inclusion in workplace health and safety structures
  • gain an insight in the ‘organising approach’ to the unionised workplaces and a basic understanding of the ‘good faith’ requirements of the Employment Relations Act
  • understand the partnership model from the partnership resources centre.

Delegates Training Stage 2 Collective Strength: Course 402

This one-day course has been developed for experienced delegates who have completed stage 1 and those that gave been elected to bargaining teams.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • gain an understanding of their branch structure and the role they have in it
  • gain an understanding of the importance of communication and the right method for each situation
  • gain an understanding of the need to know more about their company and how to identify issues when and where they occur
  • understand the types of employment agreements available, and the legal difference between each type, and the importance of those differences
  • gain an understanding of good faith and requirements under the Employment Relations Act 2000 and amendments, as well as the requirements of their union
  • gain knowledge of the phases of bargaining and their role and obligations throughout the bargaining process.
