During the notice period

The employer and employee should agree on a plan for completing and handover of the employee’s work.

While the employee is working out their notice:

  • The employer should work with the employee to develop a plan so that the employee can complete what they can and that any remaining essential work tasks are assigned to someone else, with an appropriate handover.
  • The employee should organise and document any files, processes etc, and make sure that someone else knows how their filing system works and where to find things.
  • The employee should put an auto-forward and out-of-office reply on their email and phone, clearly directing communications to someone else in the organisation.
